The Ultimate Holiday Cookie Board
This holiday Cookie Board is an easy way to take your Christmas cookie platter ideas to the next level. Rather than putting each cookie onto a separate plate, a Cookie Board combines them all into an elegant dessert board display that can get as fancy as you want.
This post will guide you through tips on how to choose Christmas cookie types and plan ahead, ways to arrange the items on your board, ideas for filler items, and much more. We’ve also included over 20 of our very favorite cookie recipes to make this time of year so you will have everything you need to start planning.
Cookie Board Tips
- Plan ahead! You can make quite a bit of the cookies and doughs ahead of time so that you aren’t frantically making and baking everything at the last minute. All it takes is a little planning and freezer space. Trust me, you will thank yourself.
- Choose a variety of Christmas cookie types. Select cookies that are a variety of different shapes, colors, sizes, flavors, and textures.
- Have filler items. Have some candies, nuts, and dried fruits on hand to fill in any empty spaces on the boards and add a little visual interest.
- Outsource. Don’t be afraid to hit up your local bakery or use store bought cookies for your cookie board. You could even display cookies that have been gifted to you by friends and family.
- Use bowls. Adding small bowls to hold tiny cookies or candies creates a nice look. Depending on the items you may want to also add small spoons or tongs.
How to Arrange a Cookie Board
- Plan. Long before you plan to serve your Cookie Board, you’ll want to decide which cookies you will use. Choose cookies that are different colors, sizes, flavors, and textures.
- Bake or buy. Either bake or purchase all of your items, freezing those that can be frozen so that you don’t need to bake everything in a day or two.
- Collect your treats. Bring everything out so that you can see it. This will give you an idea of which plates and bowls to use.
- Gather your plates, bowls, and utensils. Find any large plates or cutting boards that you want to use to display your Cookie Boards. Cheese boards and charcuterie boards make excellent Dessert Boards, as do large cutting boards or other serving platters. Also gather any small bowls that you want to hold any small cookies, candies, nuts, etc.
- Start with the largest cookies first. Place a few each of some of the larger cookies around the board first. Then add some of the smaller or more medium cookies, followed up by the most delicate cookies on top.
- Add filler items. Fill any empty spaces with candies, nuts, dried fruits or even garnishes like fresh rosemary or pine needles.
- Enjoy!
