Your family and friends are going to love these cute little White Chocolate Dipped Oreos that are decorated to look like Christmas ornaments. Luckily, they couldn't be easier to make and take just a few minutes to dip and decorate.
I like to use white chocolate melting wafers because they are specially formulated to be easy to melt and dip with. However, the flavor of real white chocolate can't be beat so don't hesitate to use your favorite brand of white chocolate chips or white chocolate bars.

White Chocolate Dipped Oreo Ingredients
- Oreo Cookies - you can use any kind of Oreo cookies. Of course, you could also make this recipe with other type of cookies.
- White Chocolate Melting Wafers - place in a microwave-safe bowl and heat for about 30 seconds at a time, stirring in between, until they the white chocolate is melted but not hot. It burns quite easily so do not heat for more than 30 seconds at a time.
- Dark Chocolate Melting Wafers - melt about ยฝ cup of dark chocolate melting wafers, put into a piping bag, snip off the end, and pipe. You could also use any other contrasting color for the strings.
- Mini M&Ms- these are perfect for making little ornaments.
- White Chocolate Reese's Peanut Butter Cups - if you can find the mini sized, cut in half and use half of a piece of candy for each Oreo. This makes the little top for each ornament.
How To Make White Chocolate Oreo Ornaments
- Melt the white chocolate. Place the white chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave on high for about 30 seconds, then take the chocolate out and stir. Microwave again for 30 seconds, stirring afterwards. If needed, repeat the process until there are just a few unmelted pieces. Stir until completely melted.
- Cut Reese's in half. Take each white chocolate Reese's candy and cut in half so they will be ready to add right after the cookies are dipped. Set aside.
- Dip the Oreos. Brush off any Oreo crumbs so that they don't get into the white chocolate, then dip one Oreo in at a time into the white chocolate. Use a fork to turn the oreo over and shake just a little to let any excess chocolate off the cookie.
- Let the chocolate set. Place the dipped Oreo cookies onto a baking sheet covered with parchment paper, add a half of a Reese's cup to the top, and allow to set up. Continue to dip until they are all finished. Allow them to cool for 30 minutes, or until the chocolate is set.
- Decorate. Once dipped, decorate as desired with melted dark chocolate, mini M&MS, sprinkles, etc. Serve immediately or store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 1 week. Enjoy!
Frequently Asked Questions
Yes! You can freeze these for up to 2 months. Just make sure to store in freezer bags or another airtight container.
White chocolate melting wafers are specially formulated to easily melt and stay melted while you dip. You can, however, also use white chocolate chips or white chocolate bars. Just melt in the same way and be sure to keep a close eye so that the chocolate doesn't overheat. If it gets too hot, white chocolate will seize up and become hard.
Tips and Variations For Making White Chocolate Covered Oreos
- Before you start dipping the Oreos, blow or dust off any cookie crumbs you can. This will help your chocolate stay white and keep as many of the Oreo crumbs out as possible.
- Make sure that the two cookies that make up the Oreo are lined up rather than offset. This will keep your cute ornaments from looking messy when they're done.
- It works best to do small batches of melted chocolate. That way, if the chocolate gets contaminated with a little water or too many cookie crumbs, you don't waste a bunch of chocolate.
- Use a fork to push the Oreo down into the chocolate and then flip the Oreo to cover it completely. It helps to slip the fork under the Oreo and shifts back and forth a little shaking white chocolate off the Oreo as you lift it up.
- These should set up in about 20 minutes, however, you can also put the cute Christmas cookies in the fridge or a cool place to speed up the process.
- It helps to let the melted dark chocolate string cool just a little before putting the mini M&M's on. You want it to be the consistency of frosting, soft enough to hold the candy but hard enough the candy doesn't fall over.
- Use a Wilton disposable piping bag for the dark chocolate for easy clean up and cleaner lines.
Storing and Freezing
- Room Temperature: stored white chocolate Oreos in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 1 week.
- Refrigerator: make sure cookies are sealed tight in an airtight container and store for up to 2 weeks in the fridge.
- Freezer: you can freeze chocolate dipped cookies for up to 2 months as long as they are stored properly in freezer bags or another airtight container.
