Rolo Pretzel Reindeer Candy
If youโre looking for a fun holiday gift or new Christmas cookie plate recipe, look no further than these Reindeer Pretzels. Made with white chocolate dipped salty pretzels, chocolate caramel Rolo candies, and decorative candies, these treats are as delicious as they are adorable.
Donโt feel like you absolutely have to dip the pretzel antlers in white chocolate, however we highly recommend it. It ups the cuteness factor, adds an extra layer of flavor, and only takes a few extra minutes. During the holiday season you can serve these on a large platter, package and give away as easy homemade gifts, or keep around the house for a fun festive snack.
Ingredients in Reindeer Pretzels
- Pretzels - in order to make 24 completed Reindeer Pretzels, you will need a total of 48 plus extra to account for breakage. I like to use mini pretzel twists. Instead of mini pretzels, you could use Nutter Butters, small cookies, or even graham crackers.
- Rolos Candy - the chocolate and caramel in this candy taste so amazing with salty pretzels. You could also use Hersheyโs Kisses or any other round chocolate candy.
- White Chocolate Wafers - white chocolate wafers are made for melting and are therefore less likely to burn or get overheated. You can also substitute white chocolate chips - just keep a close eye on them to make sure that you arenโt overheating them as they melt.
- Sprinkles - any kind of festive sprinkles can be used to decorate the antlers.
- Red M&Ms - you can use red M&Ms to make the reindeer noses, or any other kind of red candies. If you use M&Ms, be sure and place the logo face down so you donโt see it.
- Candy Eyes - you can purchase candy eyes, or use another kind of small round candies.
How to Make Reindeer Pretzels
- Cut 24 pretzels in half. To form the antlers, carefully cut 24 pretzel twists in half using a small serrated knife then set each pair of halves next to each other on a parchment lined baking sheet. Set aside.
- Melt the chocolate. In a small microwave safe bowl, add the white chocolate wafer melts. Heat for 30 seconds, stir, and repeat as necessary until the chocolate is melted but not hot.
- Dip and decorate the antlers. Dip the rounded top half of each pretzel twist half into the melted chocolate, then place onto the parchment lined baking sheet. (Note: be sure to keep the halves next to each other so that the antlers will match up once dipped) Before the chocolate sets, sprinkle with decorative sprinkles then let the chocolate set at room temperature for about 20 minutes or until hard.
- Warm the Rolo Candy. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Place the remaining 24 whole pretzel twists in a single layer on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Place an unwrapped Rolo on top of each pretzel. Bake in the oven for 2-3 minutes, or just until the Rolo candies have started to soften. Remove from the oven.
- Add the antlers, eyes, and nose. Immediately press the dipped antlers into the top of the soft Rolos and gently press an M&M onto each Rolo Candy to form the red candy nose along with two candy eyes.
- Cool and enjoy. Let the candy cool completely and set up before serving or storing in an airtight container for up to 1 week. Enjoy!
Tips and Tricks
- You will likely break a few pretzels so be sure and have extras on hand.
- Once the pretzels and Rolos come out of the oven, you will need to work quickly so make sure that you have everything you need right in front of you.
- If you use M&Ms for the red nose, be sure and place the logo down. You can use any other kind of red candies, too.
- This would also work with Hersheyโs Kisses, or another round chocolate candy.
- These Reindeer Pretzels tend to get a little beat up when stored in the freezer. You can give it a try, but we recommend making and serving them fresh.
Storing
- Room Temperature: store in an airtight container in a cool dry place at room temperature for up to 1 week.
- Refrigerator: if your house is running a little warm, you can also store these treats in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 1 week.
- Freezer: if you want to try and freeze these, you can store them in single layers in an airtight container with pieces of parchment between. They can be stored frozen for up to 2 months.
