This Easy Homemade Salsa recipe is restaurant quality salsa that can be ready in just a few minutes.  I will show you step-by-step how to make the best fresh salsa your family is going to love!

One of my favorite ways to enjoy this recipe is with our other copycat Chipotle recipes like Cilantro Lime Rice or Chipotle Chicken.  They are perfect made separately or enjoyed all together in a stuffed burrito.

Ingredients for making easy homemade salsa in a food processor.

Easy Homemade Salsa

This fresh salsa recipe is as easy as opening a few cans, chopping a few veggies, and mixing with seasoning. I used fresh tomatoes, but if tomatoes aren’t in season you can substitute canned diced tomatoes and it’ll still turn out great. This way you can enjoy homemade fresh salsa all year long!

If you like your salsa to be pretty chunky with bigger pieces of chopped onion and tomato, you can chop your ingredients by hand.  This salsa recipe also works great just tossing the ingredients into a food processor. I cut them up enough to toss in there and let the food processor do the rest of the work. So easy.

Key Ingredients

  • Onion – white onion is my go-to for salsa, but yellow onions or even red onions will work.
  • Fresh Tomatoes – choose ripe tomatoes with the most flavor and either chop or pulse in the food processor as chunky or finely as you like.
  • Diced Tomatoes – adding some diced tomatoes keeps this recipe easy and consistent. You can feel free to substitute about 1 additional cup of fresh tomatoes if you prefer.
  • Tomato Sauce – this really boost the tomato flavor of the salsa and adds a little extra body to it.
  • Canned Green Chilies – be sure to drain them before adding to the salsa.
  • Jalapeno – adding freshly chopped jalapeno adds a perfect amount of heat to your salsa.
  • Fresh Cilantro – this additional fresh and authentic flavor.
  • Lime Juice – be sure to use fresh lime juice!
