Homemade Snickers Candy Bar Recipe
This is one of those recipes that needs the “do not be intimidated” disclaimer. I promise you that making your own homemade Snickers candy bars is completely doable—easy even. And the end result tastes so much like the real thing!
We use ingredients like marshmallow fluff and caramel candies which will give a similar flavor and texture without all of the fuss. Once you’ve made the layers of peanut nougat and caramel, the pan is put into the fridge to cool before they are cut into pieces and dipped into melted chocolate.
I love serving these as part of a cookie plate for the holidays, or as homemade gifts for teachers, friends, and family. If you love peanuts, you can also try this Peanut Brittle, Peanut Butter Fudge, or these no bake Peanut Butter Balls.
Key Ingredients You Will Need
- Peanut Butter - for the peanut butter layer, you will need either chunky or creamy peanut butter. Just be sure it isn’t the kind of peanut butter than separates because the texture won’t be right.
- Marshmallow Fluff - this is the key to making the most easy nougat at home. The marshmallow fluff keeps the peanut butter layer nice and fluffy and soft.
- Powdered Sugar - this layer is sweetened with a little extra powdered sugar, which has no grittiness like granulated sugar does.
- Peanuts - either salted or unsalted peanuts will taste good, but do make sure they are roasted. You can purchase them dry roasted, or toast them lightly and then cool completely before using.
- Caramel Candies - the easiest way to make this caramel layer is to melt caramel candies. Don’t forget to unwrap them first!
- Chocolate - semi sweet chocolate chips work great. Or, chop up a chocolate bar into small pieces so that it will melt more quickly.
- Coconut Oil - melting chocolate with a little coconut oil keeps the chocolate easy to bite through even when it’s chilled.
How to Make Homemade Snickers Bars
- Mix the nougat layer. In the bowl of a stand mixer, mix together the peanut butter, marshmallow fluff, vanilla extract, and powdered sugar using the paddle. Add the peanuts and stir again until combined. Press the nougat filling into the bottom of a lightly greased 9” x 9” baking sheet.
- Add the caramel layer. Melt the unwrapped caramel candies in the microwave until smooth, then pour over the nougat layer. Place in the fridge for about 30 minutes, or until set.
- Cut the candies. Once set, pull the entire parchment paper out from the pan and cut the candies into 1” pieces using a very sharp knife.
- Dip the candies. Melt the chocolate and coconut oil together, then dip each piece of candy one at a time using a fork. Place the finished candies on a parchment paper-lined baking sheet and allow to set up in a cool, dark place. Finish with a drizzle of chocolate if desired. Enjoy!

Snickers Candy Bar Recipe
Ingredients
Snickers Peanut Layer
- ¼ cup Peanut Butter creamy or chunky works great
- 7 ounces Marshmallow Fluff
- ½ teaspoon Vanilla Extract
- 1½ cups Powdered Sugar
- 1 cup Salted Dry Roasted Peanuts or unsalted
Caramel Layer
- 11 ounces Caramel Candy unwrapped
- 2 teaspoons Water
Chocolate for Dipping
- 12 ounces Chocolate Chips
- ½ Tablespoon Coconut Oil
Instructions
Peanut Nougat Layer
- Line a 9" x 9" baking dish with parchment paper, then spray the parchment with nonstick coconut oil. Set aside.
- In the bowl of a stand mixer, add the peanut butter, marshmallow fluff, vanilla extract, and powdered sugar. Use the paddle attachment and mix together until combined. Add the peanuts and stir again until combined.
- Use your hands to evenly press the marshmallow peanut filling into the bottom of the prepared baking dish.
Caramel Layer
- Add the unwrapped caramel candy and water into a microwave safe bowl and heat for 45 seconds. Stir and heat for 30 more seconds, repeating until the caramel is melted and smooth.
- Pour the melted caramel over the peanut mixture, then place in the fridge for about 30 minutes, or until chilled.
- Once the candies are set, lift the them out of the baking dish by sliding a knife or offset spatula under the parchment paper and pulling it out. Cut into 1" pieces and set aside.
Dipping the Snickers Candies
- Add about 1 inch of water to a small pot and bring to a low simmer. Place a large glass or metal bowl over the top and make sure it is not touching the water. Add about 80% of the chocolate and the coconut oil to the bowl, and set the remaining chocolate aside.
- Let the heat from the bowl slowly melt the chocolate, stirring every minute. Once it is about 95% melted, remove from the heat and add the remaining chocolate to cool the chocolate down a little. Keep stirring and the heat from the chocolate will melt the rest.
- Use a fork to drop the prepared snickers candy into the chocolate. Turn the candy over with a fork and then lift the candy up on the fork and let the excess drizzle off back into the chocolate. Place the dipped candy on a parchment-lined baking sheet. You may need to use another fork or toothpick to help slide the candy off your fork.
- Let the candy sit in a cool, dry place until the chocolate is set. Drizzle a little extra chocolate on top to create a pattern, if desired. Enjoy!
