Ingredients for Chicken Wings
- Chicken Wings - this recipe uses bone-in chicken wings, but you could also use a mixture of wings and drumettes.
- Oil - we like to use avocado oil, but you could substitute it with canola, vegetable, or olive oil.
- Salt and Pepper - add to taste.
- Garlic - here you can use either garlic powder or finely minced fresh garlic.
Garlic Parmesan Wing Sauce
- Butter - this should be melted.
- Garlic Powder - we like to use powdered garlic rather than minced since it has a nice sweetness to it, whereas the raw garlic can be a little more abrasive.
- Parmesan Cheese - you want to use finely grated Parmesan cheese. In fact, the cheese from the can will actually work just fine in this case!
- Red Pepper Flakes - you can add a little more or less, depending on your heat preference.
- Parsley - fresh chopped parsley adds such a nice freshness to round out all of the flavors in these wings.

How to Make Garlic Parmesan Wings
- Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
- Cover a large baking sheet with aluminum foil and set a baking rack on top. Remove wings from their package and gently pat them dry with a paper towel.
- In a large bowl, add the bone-in wings. Drizzle avocado oil over them, then adds the garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Toss until the wings are completely coated.
- Place wings on the baking rack on the baking sheet, making sure that they are not touching.
- Bake in a preheated oven for about 30-35 minutes, or until a digital thermometer reads 165 degrees when inserted into the chicken, and the wings are golden brown.
- While the wings are in the oven, mix together the melted butter, garlic powder, Parmesan cheese, red pepper flakes, and parsley in a small bowl.
- When the wings are done, remove them from the oven and toss the hot wings in the Garlic Parmesan sauce until they are completely coated. Serve immediately with your favorite blue cheese or ranch dressing. Enjoy!
How to Air Fry Chicken Wings
- Preheat the air fryer to 400 degrees
- Add a single layer of wings, leaving a little space between the wings for air circulation, (do this is batches if needed)
- Air fry for 16-22 minutes and flip the wings halfway through cooking. Start with the skin side down and then air fry the skin side up last to ensure a very crispy skin.
- Prepare Garlic Parmesan Wing Sauce.
- Add cooked wings to a large bowl.
- Drizzle the sauce on the wings.
- Toss with thongs.
- Enjoy!

You want the oven temperature to be nice and hot, but not too hot! We’ve settled at 400 degrees for most chicken pieces like legs, drumsticks, and wings. This temperature gets the skin nice and crispy and bakes the chicken fast enough so that it never has a chance to dry out.
If you try to bake them much lower, you risk dry chicken with no crispy skin. Or, if you try much higher and you may torch the outside before the chicken cooks through completely.
That being said, it should take between 30-35 minutes for your chicken wings to bake through and get nice and crispy. You should always double-check the internal temperature of the chicken with a digital thermometer to be sure it has reached 165 degrees F because that is when it is truly finished cooking.
When calculating how many wings per person, plan on about a half pound of raw wings per person. For example, if you are planning to make wings for 6 people, aim for about 3 pounds of uncooked chicken wings.

Tips For Making the Best Crispy Chicken Wings
- Make sure to pat the wings dry before you start. It helps them live up to their full crispy potential.
- For the freshest, most delicious wings, make only as many as you will want to eat in one sitting. They just don’t reheat very well.
- Leave space between the wings when baking. You need to make sure there is room for air to circulate and they bake crispy rather than steaming.
- If the Garlic Parmesan Wings aren’t getting crispy enough in the oven, you can toss them in the broiler for 1-2 minutes to finish them off.
- Using a baking rack helps the fat drip down underneath so it isn’t cooking in it and getting soggy.
- Toss the wings in ta large bowl and then drizzle on the garlic parmesan sacue. This will help you coat all the wings evenly.
Storing
- Leftovers- Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days.
- Freeze- Store cooked wings in an airtight container in the freezer for up to 2 months.
- Reheat- Heat the wings in a preheated 400 degree oven for 10-15 minutes to reheat or the air fryer on 400 degrees for about 6-8 minutes. Don't heat in the microwave or the skin will be soggy. (It's best to make as many as you need, the day you need them. When reheating wings, they have a tendency to dry out.
