Halloween Mummy Meatballs

If you are looking for a quick, easy, and delicious Halloween party finger food idea, these Mummy Meatballs are the perfect solution. This recipe uses frozen meatballs, sliced bacon, and candy eyeballs to make festive Halloween food in a matter of minutes.

These Halloween meatballs are perfect for snacking on before trick or treating or serving as finger food at a Halloween party. You can use your own homemade meatballs, but I recommend cooking them first so that the bacon doesn’t burn in the oven.

Ingredients You Will Need

  • Meatballs – any type of cooked medium sized meatballs will work great. Just make sure that if you choose a flavor, it will go well with bacon. If they are frozen I recommend letting them thaw first.
  • Bacon – any type of regular or thinly sliced bacon will work great. You will need to cut each slice lengthwise and widthwise before wrapping the meatballs.
  • Candy Eyeballs – you can use large candy eyeballs (Wilton brand works great), or you could use a sliced black olive. In order to make them look like cyclops, you will need one large eyeball for each meatball.

How to Make Mummy Halloween Meatballs

  1. Prepare the bacon slices. Remove bacon from the packaging and cut each piece lengthwise and then widthwise (giving you 4 pieces total).
  2. Wrap each meatball in bacon. Wrap each meatball in a strip of bacon, trying to leave a place between the bacon to secure the eyeballs. Place the wrapped meatball onto a parchment paper lined baking sheet and repeat with the rest of the meatballs.
  3. Bake. Bake in a preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the bacon is crispy.
  4. Add the eyeballs. Remove the meatballs from the baking sheet and tuck an eye ball into each of the meatballs. You can use a knife to make slits to tuck the eyeball if needed.
  5. Serve. Serve warm with BBQ sauce, marinara sauce, sweet chili sauce, or your favorite condiment. Enjoy!

Frequently Asked Questions

How long do you need to bake mummy meatballs?

The baking time will vary based on how thick the bacon is. For regular or thinly sliced bacon, it should take between 25-30 minutes in a preheated 375 degree oven.

What kind of meatballs should I use?

Just about any brand and type of medium sized cooked meatballs will do. Find a flavor that will work well with bacon.

Can I use frozen meatballs?

Yup! Frozen meatballs work great. I would recommend defrosting them first so that they have a chance to warm through to the center before the bacon overcooks.

Can I use fresh meatballs?

If you want to use homemade meatballs, I recommend cooking them first. Otherwise, between the bacon and the meatballs, they may create a bit of a greasy mess. The meatballs may also take longer to cook than the bacon.

Storing and Reheating Instructions

  • Refrigerator: store leftover Halloween meatballs in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
  • Freezer: you can prepare and then freeze for an easy Halloween appetizer. Once you are ready to bake them, pull from the fridge for at least 30 minutes ahead of time before baking as directed.
  • To reheat: you can reheat in a microwave or a preheated 350 degree oven until warmed through.
