This Strawberry Pina Colada Smoothie is one of the best homemade smoothies. If you’ve been looking for a great strawberry pineapple smoothie, this is the recipe for you.
Homemade smoothies are a great way to start the day. You can make them with fresh or frozen ingredients and it’s a great way to get more fruits and/or veggies in your diet.
We especially love this strawberry Pina Colada Smoothie with buttered popcorn on a Sunday family movie night. If you’re a big coconut, strawberry and pineapple fan. You’ll love this smoothie recipe.
What is in a Homemade Pina Colada Smoothie?
This recipe can be made with or without Strawberries. You can also substitute the strawberries for raspberries, blueberries, blackberries or your favorite fruit.
Frozen Pineapple: Sometimes we don’t use the entire pineapple when we cut it up for dinner. If this is the case, I like to cut the pineapple into 1″ chunks and toss into a freezer bag for later.
This homemade smoothie recipe is a great way to use up the pineapple. If you cut it up and freeze the pineapple, it’ll keep in the freezer for a couple of months. I love having frozen pineapple on hand at all times for smoothies. The frozen pineapple makes almost a dole whip consistency in this smoothie recipe.
Frozen Strawberries: Frozen strawberries are one of the best smoothie ingredients. You don’t have to deal with the short shelf life of fresh strawberries and they taste just as fresh when they are frozen.
We usually buy the frozen bags of strawberries at Costco. They’re only $2-3 per pound and they’re prepped and ready to use in your frozen fruit smoothie recipes.
Cream of Coconut: If you have never used cream of coconut, you’re missing out. This amazing ingredient is incredible in homemade smoothies and drizzled on oatmeal. Oh my, yeah, it’s that good.
Cream of Coconut is pretty sweet. You won’t need to add a lot of added sugar to your Strawberry Pina Colada Smoothie recipe when using this cream of coconut. I love to have the squeeze bottle of cream of coconut but there’s a can too. The can tastes just as good. Either one works great.
Orange Juice: I don’t think a traditional Pina Colada Smoothie has orange juice in it but I like to add it to my frozen fruit smoothie recipes. When you use mostly frozen fruit, you’ll need orange juice, milk, or water to thin it out a little.
Don’t get me wrong, these ingredients are amazing blended up into a slush or ice cream consistency but we’re going for a smoothie recipe this time.
Milk: You can certainly use coconut water or even water for this ingredient if you’d rather be milk free but milk is a great way to add creaminess and more liquid to your smoothie recipe.
Vanilla Extract: 100% vanilla extract is best but imitation will also work. Just a splash does the trick. It adds so much depth to all these tropical flavors.
Lemon Juice: Adding some lemon juice to this Strawberry Pina Colada Smoothie recipe will increase the tartness. the best smoothie recipes have just the right about of tart and sweetness. Lemon juice, fresh or from a bottle, does the trick here.
Ice: I don’t usually add a lot of ice to this Strawberry Pina Colada Smoothie recipe but different blenders can handle frozen fruit and ice cubes better than others. Use your best judgment here.
What is the best blender for smoothies:
There are a lot of good blenders for smoothies but the best blender for smoothies and blending up ice and frozen fruit is hands down the vita-mix blender. It is a workhorse in the kitchen and works the best for these tough smoothie recipes.
I’ve used just about every blender out there and the vita mix is hands down the best one for the job. I’m not being sponsored for this, it’s just really that good.
