    What is Dole Whip?

Dole Whip is a frozen pineapple soft serve that is served at Disney Parks around the world. It was first officially introduced in 1986 at Disneyland, where it can still be found today inside Adventureland’s Enchanted Tiki Room.

At both Disneyland and Walt Disney World, you can get Dole Whip soft serve in a small cup, or as a Dole Whip Float, which is basically Dole Whip soaking in pineapple juice, served with a maraschino cherry.

This pineapple-flavored magic has a major cult following, and with one taste you’ll see why!  It’s got the perfect creamy, frozen texture with the most refreshing tropical flavor - it’s hard to think of anything that hits the spot more on a hot summer day.

This delicious frozen treat is made with just three simple, real ingredients and it has an almost identical flavor and texture to the real deal.  All you’ll need is vanilla ice cream, pineapple chunks, pineapple juice and a good quality blender or food processor.  If you want to go the extra step, break out the fancy glasses and mini cocktail umbrellas and transform your kitchen into the happiest place on Earth!

    How to Cut a Pineapple

Sure, you can purchase pre-cut pineapple chunks but cutting a pineapple really couldn’t be simpler.  We love to grab a few extra pineapples when they're on sale at the supermarket, cup them up, and freeze for later.  Frozen pineapple is amazing thrown in a homemade Virgin Pina Colada Recipe or any fruit smoothie.

    Just follow these easy steps:

    1. Cut off the top of the pineapple.
    2. Use a sharp serrated knife to cut around all sides of the pineapple, removing only the outer layer (if you don’t have a serrated knife, any sharp knife will do).
    3. Carefully remove any large eyes that are still showing.
    4. Cut off the bottom of the pineapple.
    5. Cut down the center, just to the side of the pineapple core, on all 4 sides.  Each of the slices will be different sizes.
    6. Cut these large slices into 1” chunks.
    7. Store in a single layer in a freezer bag overnight, or until frozen.

    Copycat Disney Pineapple Whip Ingredients

    • Vanilla Ice Cream - any brand of vanilla ice cream will work great.  If you want to make this dairy-free, you can also substitute coconut milk.
    • Pineapple Chunks - cut your own, using the directions above, or else you can purchase pre-cut pineapple chunks.
    • Pineapple Juice - you can purchase this in a can in the juice aisle, or also sometimes you can find it with the canned fruits.
    • Lemon Juice or Lime Juice - this is optional, but just a small squeeze can add a nice flavor.

How to Make a Dole Whip

    1. In a VitaMix, or other heavy-duty blender or food processor, combine the vanilla ice cream, frozen pineapple chunks, and pineapple juice.
    2. Blend until smooth - you may need to use the plunger tool, or stop the blender and use a large spoon to push frozen pineapple down to ensure everything is well-blended.  The mixture should resemble soft-serve ice cream.
    3. Transfer the Dole Whip into a covered container and freeze for 2-3 hours to get the perfect dole whip consistency.
    4. When you are ready to serve, spoon the frozen Dole Whip into a piping bag and pipe into each glass, or else simply scoop the mixture into your glasses.
    5. Garnish with a sliced wedge of pineapple and serve Dole Whip with a straw and spoon.  Enjoy!

    Dole Whip Float

If you want to make a Dole Whip Float, use an ice cream scoop to scoop your Dole Whip mixture into a glass, ( or if you want it to be extra pretty, fill a piping bag and pipe it into a cup, then cover with more pineapple juice.  Serve with a maraschino cherry and a drink umbrella if you’d like!

    Disney Copycat Dole Whip Tips

    • Use a heavy-duty blender!  If you don't have one, you can also try a food processor, or you may end up having to add a touch more pineapple juice to make sure you can get it as creamy as possible.
    • Put your Pineapple Whip in the freezer for at least 30 minutes, but preferably 2-3 hours after blending.  That will give it the slushy texture that is so delicious.
    • If you want to get that iconic Dole Whip swirl, you can use a star tip inside a piping bag.  Don't worry, though, if you don't have any piping bags.  You can also use a freezer bag and just cut off one of the tips.
    • If you find your Dole Whip isn't quite sweet enough, add a touch of powdered sugar to the blender.  You can also brighten the flavor by adding a touch of lemon or lime juice.
