Pizza Monkey Bread Recipe

This easy cheesy pull-apart Monkey Bread Pizza is fun to eat, super nostalgic, and couldn’t be simpler.  It’s a great recipe to make before watching the big game, after school or whenever a comfort food craving hits.

All you need to make Pizza Monkey Bread is refrigerated biscuit dough, seasoning, and your favorite pizza toppings.  At our house, the dipping sauce of choice is marinara sauce, but you can feel free to dip into ranch, queso or whatever other sauce your family likes.  We’re also big pepperoni pizza fans, but if you would rather make a vegetarian version you can absolutely skip it.

Key Ingredients

  • Refrigerated Biscuits – you can use any brand of refrigerated canned biscuit dough.  Personally, we like the Pillsbury Grands brand, which you can find at just about any grocery store.
  • Garlic – you can use fresh minced or substitute garlic powder.
  • Italian Seasoning – you should be able to find Italian seasoning in the spice section of your grocery store.
  • Pepperoni – any sliced pepperoni will work.  You can also use mini pepperoni rather than quartering each piece, or skip altogether to make a vegetarian version.
  • Mozzarella Cheese – you can purchase shredded cheese, or shred your own.
  • Parmesan Cheese – this should be grated.
  • Marinara Sauce – any brand of marinara or pizza sauce will work!

How to Make Pizza Monkey Bread

  1. Mix the garlic oil. In a small bowl, mix together the olive oil, butter, garlic and Italian seasonings and set aside.
  2. Prepare the canned biscuit dough. Open and separate the biscuit dough cans, then cut each biscuit into four pieces.  Roll a handful of the cut biscuit pieces into the garlic oil mixture at a time, making sure to cover all the dough, then transfer to a separate large bowl.  Continue until all of the biscuit pieces are covered.
  3. Add the toppings. Add the pepperoni, mozzarella cheese, and Parmesan cheese to the bowl with the biscuit pieces, tossing gently to combine.  Spread the prepared pizza monkey bread pieces evenly into a lightly greased bundt pan.
  4. Bake. Bake in a preheated 350 degree oven for 30-35 minutes (Note: if you use a dark bundt pan, you may need to bake for an extra 5-10 minutes), or until the edges are golden brown and the dough is cooked through.
  5. Serve. Remove the pan from the oven and let it sit for 10 minutes before inverting it to a large plate or serving platter.  Serve with warm marinara sauce.  Enjoy!

Frequently Asked Questions

What is pizza monkey bread?

Pizza monkey bread is a fun and delicious twist on traditional pizza. It consists of bite-sized pieces of dough coated in savory seasonings and cheese, baked together in a bundt pan for a pull-apart treat.

Can I freeze Monkey Bread?

You sure can!  Just be sure to let it cool completely, then wrap well in aluminum foil and store in a freezer bag, or another airtight container, for up to 2 months.
When you are ready to serve, you can let the monkey bread thaw in the fridge overnight, then transfer to a baking sheet and reheat in a preheated 325 degree oven for about 10-15 minutes, or until warmed through.

How do I store leftovers?

If you have any leftovers (which is rare!), store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator. To reheat, simply place the desired portion on a microwave-safe plate and heat until warmed through.

Can I make pizza monkey bread in advance?

Yes, you can assemble the pizza monkey bread in the bundt pan up to a day in advance and store it covered in the refrigerator. When you’re ready to bake, simply remove it from the refrigerator, let it come to room temperature as the oven preheats, and then bake as instructed.

I made this recipe. Instead of using two cans of biscuits I used one can cut into six pieces instead of four. I made this just for me and my husband. Also, I cut my pepperoni into four pieces. I kept all other ingredients as the recipe called for. Very delicious will definitely make this again.
