Two glasses with red white and blue 4th of july drinks made with colorful ice cubes of gatorade and maraschino cherries.

Key Ingredients and Substitutions

  • Red layer – red Gatorade works great, but you might also want to try using cranberry juice (or cran-Raspberry juice), Hawaiian Punch, or really any kind of fruit punch.
  • White layer – white Gatorade works best for the white layer, unless you just want to use plain water.
  • Blue layer – the easiest blue colored drinks to find are blue Gatorade or blue Powerade. Blue Kool Aid would also work if you can find it and don’t mind the higher sugar content.
  • Sprite – you can use Sprite for the main ingredient, or another type of lemon lime sparkling soda. Ginger ale would also work great.
  • Maraschino cherries – this is optional but really makes this 4th of July punch festive. For garnish you could also use sturdy red and blue fruits such as strawberries and blueberries.

How to Make 4th of July Punch

  1. Make ice cubes. Take 3 ice cube trays and fill one with white Gatorade, one with red Gatorade, and one with blue Gatorade. Allow to freeze until completely hard, or at least 4 hours.
  2. Add Sprite. Add red, white, and blue ice cubes to individual mason jars, glasses, or plastic cups. Fill with Sprite and top with a maraschino cherry.
  3. Serve. To serve, add a decorative straw if desired. Enjoy!

Frequently Asked Questions

How much punch should I serve per person?

As a general rule of thumb, you can plan on serving about 2 liters of punch, or the size of this recipe, per 10 guests.

Can I make this punch in a large punch bowl or pitcher?

You could, although the presentation is all about the colorful ice cubes. Once they melt, your punch won’t look very pretty. If you are looking for Fourth of July drinks that would work well in a punch bowl, you might want to try one of our ideas above.

What kind of alcohol would taste best in this punch?

If you want to make an adults-only version, I would recommend serving with tequila, vodka, or light rum. Pour 1-2 ounces of alcohol into each cup before adding the Sprite. Mix, then add the ice cubes and serve.
