How To Make The Best French Toast Casserole
- Spray or grease a 9 by 13" pan with non-stick cooking spray.
- Cut french bread into 1" cubes and place in the 9 by 13? baking dish. The baking dish should be full of bread, almost up to the top of the baking dish. (I used 1 large loaf of french bread.)
- Wash, peel, core, and cut the apples into ½" chunks. Add the apples to the bread.
- In a large mixing bowl, crack the 12 eggs and whisk with a fork. Add the milk, brown sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves. Whisk again until all the ingredients are combined.
- Add the egg mixture to the bread and apples and fold together until all the bread chunks are coated.
- Cover the french toast bake with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 4-48 hours.
When you are ready to bake the french toast casserole, take the baking dish out of the fridge. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Be sure the baking dish has a chance to come up to room temperature before putting it in the oven.
How to Make Streusel Topping
- In a medium-size mixing bowl, add the room temperature butter, brown sugar, flour, and cinnamon. Stir or mix with your hands until the mixture has ¼" pieces. . Sprinkle the butter mixture on the french toast bake.
- Sprinkle the butter mixture on the french toast bake.
- Once the baking dish is at room temperature, bake for 45-60 minutes or until the edges are golden brown.
- Serve with whipped cream, buttermilk syrup, or your favorite fruit. Enjoy!
How To Make Oven Baked French Toast– No Overnight
- If you don’t have time for an overnight casserole, just give yourself an additional 20 minutes or so to let the milk mixture soak into the bread chunks.
- Add the bread and apples to a large bowl and pour the egg and milk mixture over the bread chunks. Toss lightly and let it sit for about 10 minutes.
- Toss again before you pour it into a baking dish.

- 3 cups Apples about 3 large apples
- 2 cups Milk
- 12 large Eggs
