This pork roast recipe is fantastic. We love serving it on creamy garlic mashed potatoes, on a dinner roll, or a pretzel roll. Add a side salad to one of those options and you have yourself an easy and protein-filled dinner recipe.
This Mississippi pork roast has a rich and flavorful sauce on it when it’s cooked. You can use just about any pork roast for this recipe.
What is the most tender Pork Roast?
- Pork Loin will be the most tender cut of meat. The area between the shoulder and back legs is the leanest, most tender part of the animal. Since this recipe is slow-roasted, you can use several other pork roast and the results will turn out tender and juicy. The most common cut for making shredded pork is the shoulder.
- The pork shoulder is the entire front leg and shoulder of the pig. In your grocery store, you will usually find this divided into two cuts, the Boston butt (also known as the Boston roast), and the picnic roast
- Pork tenderloin would work great too. Luckily this recipe is very forgiving and with any of these cuts of pork, your shredded pork will turn out tender and juicy.

Mississippi Pot Roast
This Mississippi crock pot roast is a dump and go recipe. It's so easy. You literally just add the pork roast, a few seasonings, and let it do its thang for 5-6 hours. Cooking a pork roast in a crockpot is the perfect way to get that tender and juicy shredded pork we all love.
When you cook a pork roast in a crockpot, the connective tissue and fat have a chance to render slowly, keeping the moisture in and melting away any toughness in the meat. The added seasonings give the pork roast a ton of flavor and add just the right amount of sauce to this delicious shredded pork recipe.

What to make with Shredded Pork Roast
You have several meal options when your pork roast is fully cooked and can easily be shredded with two forks. You can serve this on top of mashed potatoes. My garlic mashed potatoes are incredible with this recipe. You can also make cut little slider sandwiches or eat it as a main entree with some side potatoes or broccoli.
To make a pulled pork sandwich, after you have shredded the pork roast, put it on your favorite kind of bun, add a slice of cheddar or pepper jack cheese, sliced avocado or tomato, and a handful of lettuce. It’s so yummy and versatile.
- Nachos- This recipe works great on homemade nachos. The meat adds so much flavor. I'd recommend adding a drizzle of BBQ sauce and a drizzle of southwest ranch dressing too.
- Sandwich- You can make a pulled pork sandwich. After you have shredded the pork roast, Add a few ounces to your favorite kind of bun. Add a slice of cheddar or pepper jack cheese, sliced avocado or tomato, and a handful of lettuce.
- Main Dish- Serve with some potatoes and steamed vegetables.
- Quesadillas- Fill a tortilla with this pulled pork, your favorite cheese, and serve with a side of homemade salsa.
- Taco Bowl- Add some ranch potatoes, top with pulled pork and shredded cheese, and you've got an entire meal.

- 3-5 lb Pork Roast— Pork Tenderloin,
- 1 pkg Aus Ju Seasoning packet (found in the grocery aisle with all the spices)
- 1 pkg Ranch Dressing mix (Hidden Valley Ranch or your favorite brand)
- 5-6 Pepperoncini--bottled, found in the isle with the condiments
- 2-3 Tablespoons Butter
How to make Easy Crockpot Mississippi Pork Roast
- Spray your crockpot with non-stick cooking spray.
- Add your pork roast to the crockpot and pat dry with paper towels.
- Sprinkle the ranch seasoning packet and au jus seasoning packet on the roast.
- Add the pepperoncini and a couple of Tablespoons of the liquid.
- Place the pats of butter on the roast.
- Cook on high for 4-6 hours, depending on the size of the roast.
- The meat is done when you can easily shred the roast with two forks. If the roast is difficult to shred. Put the lid on and cook for 30-60 more minutes or until it’s easily spreadable.
- Shred the pork roast taking out any large pieces of fat or gristle. Spoon the sauce over the roast.
- Serve on mashed potatoes, a roll, or a pretzel bun. Enjoy.

- 3-5 lb Pork Roast
- 6-7 large Pepperoncini
- 1 pkg Ranch Seasoning
- 1 pkg Au Jus Seasoning
- 3 Tablespoons Butter
Instructions
- Spray your crockpot with non-stick cooking spray
- Add your pork roast to the crockpot and sprinkle the ranch seasoning packet and au jus seasoning packet on the roast.
- Add the pepperoncini's and a couple of tablespoons of the liquid and place the pats of butter on the roast.
- Cook on high for 4-6 hours depending on the size of the roast or until you can easily shred the roast with two forks, the meat is done. (If the roast is difficult to shred. Put the lid on and cook for 30-60 more minutes or until it’s easily spreadable. )
- Shred the pork roast taking out any large pieces of fat or gristle. Spoon the sauce over the roast.
- Serve on mashed potatoes, a roll, or pretzel bun. Enjoy

How to Make Mississippi Pork Roast in the Oven
- Preheat the oven to 300 degrees F.
- Pat dry your pork roast with paper towels.
- Place your roast in a large dutch oven.
- Sprinkle the ranch seasoning packet and au jus seasoning packet on the roast.
- Add the pepperoncini's and a couple of Tablespoons of the liquid.
- Place the pats of butter on the roast.
- Cover your dutch oven with a lid.
- Bake in a preheated 300 degree F oven for about 5-6 hours or until the roast shreds easily with two forks.
- Shred the pork roast taking out any large pieces of fat or gristle. Spoon the sauce over the roast.
- Serve on mashed potatoes, a roll, or pretzel bun. Enjoy.
How to Make Mississippi Pork Roast in the Instant Pot
- Pat dry your pork roast with paper towels.
- Add your Pork Roast to the bottom of your Intat Pot
- Sprinkle the ranch seasoning packet and au jus seasoning packet on the roast.
- Add the pepperoncini's and a couple of Tablespoons of the liquid.
- Place the pats of butter on the roast.
- Close the lid and turn the steam release valve to the "sealing" position
- Press the pressure Cook Button and set the timer for 45 minutes.
- After the time has completed, allow your Instant Pot to naturally release the pressure (this will take about 20 minutes)
