DoubleTree Cookie Ingredients
- Butter - you want your butter to be at room temperature so that it will cream properly with the sugars.
- Sugar - regular granulated sugar.
- Light Brown Sugar - this adds a nice caramel flavor.
- Lemon Juice - itโs best to use fresh squeezed lemon juice here. It helps to activate the baking soda, which gives these cookies a little lift and chew.
- Vanilla Extract - pure vanilla extract tastes best.
- Salt - we like to use sea salt.
- Cinnamon - use any kind of ground cinnamon.
- Eggs - any kind of large eggs will work.
- Flour - we use all-purpose flour.
- Old-Fashioned Oats - you want to use old-fashioned rolled oats.
- Baking Soda - this helps to give the cookies a bit of lift.
- Chocolate Chips - the Doubletree recipe uses semi-sweet chocolate chips.
- Walnuts - you can buy these pre-chopped, or else just chop them yourself.
How to Make DoubleTree Chocolate Chip Cookies
- Preheat oven to 325 degrees.

- Slowly add eggs, vanilla, lemon juice, salt and cinnamon and mix to combine, scraping down the sides again as needed.
- In a separate medium bowl, combine the flour, rolled oats and baking soda and whisk well, then add the flour mixture into the butter mixture and combine with the mixer on low speed, just until mixed. You may want to scrape the bottom and sides of the mixing bowl to be sure all of the ingredients are incorporated, but do not overmix.

- Scoop and roll 1 ยผ" balls and place about 2โ apart onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, or greased lightly with pan spray.
- Bake in a preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown, but the center is still soft.
- Remove from oven and let the cookies cool on the pan for about 2 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely. Enjoy!
Frequently Asked Questions
Whenever you have baking soda in a recipe, you need to also have something acidic for it to react with.ย Oftentimes, this is baking powder.ย Other recipes rely on brown sugar alone, which is slightly acidic.ย ย
This recipe uses just a touch of fresh-squeezed lemon juice to react with the baking soda, giving it a little lift and an extra chewy texture.ย Thereโs so little you wonโt even taste it.
You can store your cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 1 week - no need to refrigerate.
We recommend freezing the cookie dough rather than the baked cookies.ย A great way to do this is to portion your dough into balls, then transfer to freezer bags to store.ย This way, you can pull your cookies from the freezer onto a prepared baking sheet (covered with parchment paper) and bake in a preheated oven.ย
You donโt even need to thaw them - add an extra 2-3 minutes to the baking time.

While the flavor was good, the cookies did spread quite a bit.

I'm sorry your cookies spread. I'd love to figure out what happened. A couple of questions, did you use 100% butter? Did you happen to soften the butter in the microwave?
