How to make toffee oyster crackers, an easy cinnamon sugar churro snack mix made with oyster crackers.

Key Ingredients

  • Oyster Crackers – for this recipe, there isn’t a great substitute for oyster crackers. I recommend using the Nabisco brand because they are a good size and perfect texture.
  • Butter – salted or unsalted butter works great so use whichever you prefer.
  • Corn Syrup – the corn syrup helps keep the toffee coating from crystallizing and becoming grainy.
  • Cinnamon – a key churros ingredient, you can use any kind of ground cinnamon that you would like.
  • Churro Coating – you will need about ¾ cup of sugar and about 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon to make the churro coating.

How to Make Churro Oyster Crackers

  1. Boil the sugar mixture. In a medium saucepan, combine the butter, sugar, corn syrup, vanilla extract, and cinnamon.  Bring to a rapid boil, then remove from the heat.
  2. Mix in the oyster crackers. Add the oyster crackers to the sugar mixture. Mix to coat, then pour the crackers and sugar mixture onto a greased baking sheet.
  3. Bake. Bake in your preheated 350 degree oven for about 8-10 minutes, or until the sugar is bubbling on the crackers.
  4. Toss in cinnamon sugar. Remove from the oven, then combine the 3/4 cup sugar and 1 teaspoon cinnamon in a small bowl. Sprinkle over the baked crackers, tossing to coat. Separate any clumps of crackers and allow to cool completely on the baking sheet before serving or storing. Enjoy!

Frequently Asked Questions

What can I use instead of Oyster Crackers?

There really isn’t a great substitute for Oyster Crackers for this recipe. They are the perfect size, thickness, texture, and flavor. Other crackers are a similar size but contain quite a bit of added flavoring.

How should I store this Churro Snack Mix?

I recommend storing this in an airtight container at room temperature, rather than in the fridge. It should stay nice and fresh for up to 1 week as long as it’s stored in a cool, dry place. I do not recommend freezing as the coating will thaw and cause the crackers to become a little mushy.

How long should you bake this snack mix?

At 350 degrees F, you will need to bake this for about 8-10 minutes. You only want to bake it long enough to seal the sugar coating around the crackers, but not actually toast them very much.

Recipe Variations

  • Turn these into spicy oyster crackers by adding a little cayenne powder into the sugar coating mixture.
  • To make churro Chex Mix, you can substitute an equal amount of Chex Mix crackers and mix-ins for the oyster crackers.

Storing Instructions

  • Room Temperature: store in an airtight container in a cool, dry place at room temperature for up to 1 week.
