This Snickers Apple Salad recipe is a sweet dessert salad filled with creamy Cool Whip, instant pudding, chewy Snickers candy bars, and tart green apples. Similar to ambrosia salad, this recipe can be served as a dessert or side for Easter, Thanksgiving, summer potlucks, or any other get together.

While most of the salad can be prepped ahead of time, I recommend waiting until just before serving to dice the green apples so that they don’t begin to brown. And if you’re looking for another sweet salad to bring to a potluck or BBQ, try our Easy Frog Salad Recipe.

Recipe Notes

This is by far a favorite at every family function. Everyone will be asking for your “salad” recipe! I say salad, a health nut would say dessert. We can agree to disagree on this one. ha!

Snickers Apple Salad Recipe

Fans of dessert salads will love this sweet and tart Snickers and apple salad. The creamy butterscotch and Cool whip pudding mixture is filled with bite sized pieces of Snickers candy bars and diced Granny Smith Apples.

For a super sweet finish, scatter a few more apples and candy pieces over the top and drizzle with caramel sauce. And while this recipe calls for Cool Whip, you can easily substitute homemade whipped cream. Likewise, you can play around with different flavors of instant pudding and even candy bars.

Key Ingredients

  • Snickers Candy Bars – you will need about 6 full size candy bars for this recipe. They need to be cut into bite-sized pieces that are about the same size as the apples.
  • Apples – I prefer a super tart apple like Granny Smith apples that will cut through some of the creaminess and sweetness of the other ingredients. They should be peeled, cored, and cut into bite-sized pieces. About ½” is perfect.
  • Instant Pudding Mix – you will need one 3.4 ounce package of instant butterscotch pudding mix. Instant vanilla pudding mix would also work great.
  • Milk – whole milk works great, although you could use 2%. This is mixed with the instant pudding mix.
  • Cool Whip – Cool Whip is pretty standard, although you could substitute homemade whipped cream or any other kind of whipped topping.
  • Caramel Sauce – caramel sauce is optional but can be drizzled over the top.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Is this a salad or dessert?

In all honesty, there is nothing remotely healthy or salad-like about Snickers Apple Salad. It is full of candy bars, whipped cream, instant pudding, and caramel sauce which absolutely makes it a dessert in my eyes. However, that doesn’t mean that you couldn’t serve it as a side or appetizer for a brunch or party!

Can Snickers salad be made ahead of time?

If you want to get a head start on this dessert salad, you can prepare everything besides the apples the day before. If you cut the apples too early, they will begin to brown unless you treat them with lemon juice or another type of citric acid. I would recommend making the salad, covering it with plastic wrap, and then dicing and folding in the apples just before you are ready to serve.

What are the best apples to use?

For a sweet dessert salad like this, I like to use very tart and crisp apples such as Granny Smith Apples. This helps to cut some of the sweetness and richness of the other ingredients. If you can find them, Mutsu apples, Pink Lady apples, or Honeycrisp apples would also taste great.

    Storage Tips

    • Make ahead instructions: prepare everything besides the apples and extra toppings the day before you plan to serve. Cover with plastic wrap and store in the fridge overnight. The next day, dice and fold in your apples and add your toppings just before serving.
    • Refrigerator: store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 days.
