Halloween Pumpkin Pretzels
These sweet and salty Pumpkin Pretzels are a festive little sweet treat that you can serve all season long. They make great Halloween pretzel treats to serve at parties, but they arenโt specifically Halloween-themed so you can make them all season long.
Kids absolutely love getting in on the fun, so feel free to let the little ones help decorate. I recommend using candy melts because they are super user-friendly. If you are up for making even more Halloween chocolate-covered pretzels, you could go all out and make these cute Mummy Pretzels, too.ย
Ingredients in Pumpkin Halloween Pretzels
- Melted Chocolate - you will need three types of melted chocolate to make these Pumpkin Pretzels - orange melting wafers, green melting wafers, and milk chocolate. Make sure to follow our instructions on how to melt chocolate below so that you donโt risk burning or overheating it.
- Pretzels - I like to use mini twist pretzels to make Pumpkin pretzels because they are bite sized and shaped like pumpkins.
How to Make Pumpkin Halloween Chocolate Covered Pretzels
- Melt the white chocolate. To melt the white chocolate, place the white candy melts into a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave on high for 30 seconds and then stir. Continue to heat for 30 seconds at a time, stirring in between, until the wafers are mostly melted. (Note: If the wafers are partially melted and the dish is still warm, allow it to sit for a minute or two and then stir again. You do not want to over-microwave or the chocolate will burn)
- Dip the pretzels. To dip, use a fork to submerge each pretzel into the melted orange chocolate one at a time. Remove with the fork, then tap the fork onto the side of the bowl to remove excess chocolate. Place the dipped pretzel onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or waxed paper and repeat with the rest of the pretzels.
- Dip the stems. Melt the milk chocolate, then dip the pretzel stem pieces into it and place on the parchment paper. When the chocolate has hardened, melt a little more chocolate and then dip the stem into the chocolate and attach to the orange dipped pumpkins.
- Pipe the green leaves. Next, melt the green chocolate wafers and add it to a piping bag. Pipe a little green leaf onto each pumpkin.
- Let the chocolate set up. Allow the pretzels to set up at room temperature for about 30 minutes, or until the chocolate hardens.
- Store. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 1 week or the fridge for up to 1 month. Enjoy!
Frequently Asked Questions
Yes! As long as your Halloween pretzels are sealed tightly in an airtight container or freezer bags, you can store them frozen for up to 2 months. You just need to be sure that they are in an airtight container so that no moisture can get in and cause them to become soggy.
For dipping pretzels, or anything else into melted chocolate, the easiest chocolate to use is melting chocolate. Itโs specifically formulated to melt easily and is quite easy to work with. For these Pumpkin Pretzels, it is also your best bet because melting wafers come in different colors that are all ready to use.
For the milk chocolate stems, you can use chocolate chips or plain chocolate bars. If the pieces are larger than the size of a chocolate chip, just chop them up before melting.
If your melted chocolate is hard instead of melted, you likely overheated it. It doesnโt take much to overheat white chocolate. The other reason for hardened chocolate is if you introduced any water to it. Your best bet is to start over and keep a close eye on it while it heats.
Storing Your Halloween Pretzel Treats
- Room Temperature: store in an airtight container in a cool dark place at room temperature for up to 1 week.
- Refrigerator: you can store in the fridge as long as your pretzels are well sealed in an airtight container. They will last for up to 1 month this way as long as they are properly sealed.
- Freezer: chocolate covered pretzels can be stored in the freezer for up to 2 months as long as they are well sealed in an airtight container.
