Easy Cheeseburger Sliders On Hawaiian Rolls

Go ahead and add these Hawaiian Roll Cheeseburger Sliders to your regular dinner rotation. Not only are they as juicy and delicious as regular burgers, they are also easy to make and can be prepped ahead of time.

Part of why this recipe is so darn simple is because the Cheeseburger Sliders are baked in a large slab. Once the cheese is melted and the garlic and Parmesan flavored buns get nice and toasty they are ready for your favorite burger toppings. Serve them up for a quick and easy weeknight dinner, party favorite, or game day snack.

If you are making these for a crowd and want to prep ahead of time, you can assemble, store in the fridge, and bake the following day. While I love using Hawaiian rolls, our Quick Dinner Rolls also make excellent slider buns.

    Hawaiian Roll Cheeseburger Sliders Ingredients

    • Ground Beef - I recommend using 85/15 ground beef which is a lean ground beef and less greasy. You could also try using ground turkey.
    • Onion - you will need about ½ cup of minced white or yellow onion for the filling.
    • Garlic - fresh minced garlic has the best flavor, although you could use jarred minced garlic.
    • Salt and Pepper
    • Worcestershire Sauce - this adds a signature flavor and tastes amazing.
    • Mayonnaise - you can use either regular mayo or lite.
    • Ketchup - any brand of regular ketchup will work great.
    • Mustard - for the cheeseburger filling I suggest using either dijon or yellow mustard.

    For Slider Buns

    • Hawaiian Rolls - these soft and fluffy rolls are the perfect size for sliders. You could also use any type of store bought or Homemade Dinner Rolls.
    • Shredded Cheese - shredded cheddar cheese works great, but feel free to use your favorite. You might also want to switch up the type of cheese depending on what other toppings you plan to add. Pepper jack or mozzarella would both taste great.
    • Butter - you’ll need just a little melted butter to brush over the rolls before adding to the oven.
    • Garlic Salt - if you don’t have garlic salt you can combine half garlic powder and half salt. Sesame seeds would also be a great topping.
    • Grated Parmesan Cheese - this is optional but adds loads of flavor to the buns.

How to Make Easy Cheeseburger Sliders With Hawaiian Rolls

    1. Cook the ground beef, onions, and garlic. In a large skillet over medium heat add the ground beef and minced onion. Cook while stirring until there is only a little pink left in the ground beef - about 5-7 minutes. Add the minced garlic and cook for another 2 minutes until fragrant.
    2. Add the rest of the ingredients. Remove from the heat and stir in the Worcestershire sauce, mayo, ketchup, mustard, salt, and pepper.
    3. Assemble the sliders. Cut the rolls in half and lay the bottoms out onto a baking sheet or baking dish in a single layer. Spread the cheeseburger filling evenly over the top then sprinkle with the shredded cheese. Add the top of the roll back on and brush the tops of the rolls with melted butter. Sprinkle with garlic salt and grated Parmesan cheese.
    4. Bake. Cover the sliders with aluminum foil and bake in a preheated 350 degree oven for about 10 minutes, or until the cheese is completely melted. Remove the foil and bake for another 5-7 minutes, or until the rolls are golden brown.
    5. Serve. Serve warm with your favorite burger toppings. Enjoy!

Recipe Variations for Hawaiian Roll Cheeseburger Sliders

These easy recipe variations offer something for everyone, from classic flavors to bold and creative combinations.

    • Bacon Cheeseburger Sliders: Add slices of crispy bacon on top of the cheeseburger patties before assembling the sliders.
    • Spicy Jalapeño Cheeseburger Sliders: If you like a little heat, try adding sliced jalapeños to your cheeseburger sliders. You can either mix the sliced jalapeños into the ground beef mixture before forming the patties or simply place a few slices on top of each patty before baking.
    • BBQ Bacon Cheeseburger Sliders: For a tangy and smoky flavor, add BBQ sauce along with crispy bacon before baking.
    • Mushroom Swiss Cheeseburger Sliders: Sauté sliced mushrooms in butter until they are golden brown and tender. Place the cooked mushrooms on top of the cheeseburger patties and cover them with Swiss cheese.
    • Teriyaki Pineapple Cheeseburger Sliders: Give your sliders a tropical twist by adding teriyaki sauce and pineapple slices. Grill the pineapple slices until they have beautiful grill marks, then place them on top of the cheeseburger patties along with a drizzle of teriyaki sauce.
    • Guacamole Bacon Cheeseburger Sliders: Mash ripe avocados and mix them with lime juice, salt, and diced tomatoes to make fresh guacamole. Spread the guacamole onto the Hawaiian rolls, then assemble the sliders with cheese and bacon.
    • Mediterranean Feta Cheeseburger Sliders: If you're looking for a unique flavor profile, try incorporating Mediterranean flavors into your cheeseburger sliders. Mix crumbled feta cheese and chopped Kalamata olives into the ground beef mixture before forming the patties. Once cooked, the feta cheese will melt and infuse the sliders with a tangy and salty taste.

    Frequently Asked Questions

How much ground beef will I need per slider?

I suggest planning on using about 2 ounces of ground beef per slider. Of course this will depend on the size of your buns, but if you are using Hawaiian rolls, 2 ounces is a good rule of thumb.

How do you keep sliders from getting soggy?

This recipe calls for removing the foil from the sliders in the oven towards the end so that the outsides of the buns have a chance to get toasty. Another trick is to line the bottom half of the rolls with slices of cheese. As long as you follow these instructions you shouldn’t have an issue with soggy sliders.

Can I make sliders ahead of time?

Absolutely! What I love about this recipe is that you can prepare and assemble the sliders the night before. Cover and refrigerate, then the next day you’ll just need to bake.

How do you make plain Hamburger Sliders?

If you would rather make plain Burger Sliders, you can skip the shredded cheese. I still recommend baking the sliders in the oven so that the buns have a chance to get nice and toasty.

    Storing and Reheating

    • Refrigerator: store leftover Cheeseburger Sliders in an airtight container or wrapped in foil in the fridge for up to 3 days.
    • Freezer: you can freeze prepared and assembled sliders to bake later. Just wrap well in aluminum foil and plastic. Store frozen for up to 2 months then thaw overnight in the fridge. Note: the buns will be slightly soggier than normal with this method.
    • To reheat: microwave individual sliders for about 20 seconds or until warmed through. You could also cover and reheat in a preheated 350 degree oven.
