Salted Caramel Frosting Recipe

This rich and creamy salted caramel frosting is sweet, salty, buttery, and perfect for using on all sorts of cupcakes, cakes, cookies, and bars. It uses just 5 ingredients and takes only a few minutes to whip up.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup salted butter room temperature
  • 1/2 cup caramel sauce homemade or store bought caramel topping
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 tablespoon milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon flakey sea salt

Instructions

  • Add the softened butter to the bowl of a stand mixer and beat using the whisk attachment until light and fluffy.  Add the caramel dessert topping and mix again.

  • With the mixer off, add the vanilla extract, half of the powdered sugar, and the milk. Whip until light and fluffy again, then add the rest of the powdered sugar.

  • Use immediately, sprinkling flakey sea salt over the top of the frosting. Or, store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 1 week. Enjoy!

Notes

Storing instructions: store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 1 week, or in the freezer for up to 2 months. To thaw, transfer to the fridge overnight. Pull the frosting out to room temperature for at least 1 hour, then transfer to the bowl of a stand mixer and whip until light and fluffy.
