Puff Pastry Cinnamon Twist Recipe

These homemade cinnamon twists are a sweet and buttery treat that takes just minutes to prepare. Serve with a drizzle of icing for a fun dessert, or even as part of your next brunch or afternoon coffee.

Ingredients

  • 2 sheets frozen puff pastry thawed
  • 2 tablespoons butter melted
  • 1/2 cup sugar (divided)
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon (divided)
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons water

Icing

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons heavy cream
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 425 degrees F.
  • Unfold 2 thawed sheets of puff pastry onto a lightly floured surface. Use a rolling pin to even out the creases and gently roll out the puff pastry. Pour half of the butter onto each of the puff pastry sheets and spread evenly using an offset spatula or a pastry brush. Sprinkle each sheet with half of the sugar and half of the cinnamon.
  • Use a pizza cutter or sharp knife to cut into 3/4" wide strips. Twist each puff pastry strip and place onto a parchment lined baking sheet.
  • In a small bowl, whisk together the egg and water. Use a pastry brush to lightly egg wash the puff pastry.
  • Bake in a preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until puffed and lightly golden brown.
  • Meanwhile, combine the powdered sugar, heavy cream, and vanilla extract in a small bowl. Stir until combined and smooth, then set aside until ready to use.
  • Once baked, remove the cinnamon twists from the oven. Allow them to cool slightly before drizzling with icing and serving. Enjoy!

Notes

Storing instructions: store completely cooled cinnamon sugar twists in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days.
Make-ahead: you can freeze unbaked cinnamon twists for up to 2 months. When you are ready to bake them, pull them from the freezer and place on a parchment-lined baking sheet before baking as directed.
To make shorter straws, cut the strips in half widthwise.
