In this recipe, I’ve added protein powder and flax seeds to majorly boost the protein as well as the healthy fats and fiber. As a bonus, flax seed actually makes this smoothie even creamier without adding more of any flavor.
Looking for a plain Strawberry Smoothie? We’ve got that too.
Why You’ll Love This Recipe
- An easy, protein-packed breakfast. Thanks to the protein powder, this smoothie is packed with energy to start your day, making it the perfect quick breakfast.
- Takes just 5 minutes to make. In just about 5 minutes, you can make and enjoy this healthy smoothie. Plus, you’ll only need 5 ingredients!
- Super creamy. The combination of frozen strawberries, bananas, milk, and flax seed keep this smoothie ultra creamy and delicious. As long as the fruit is frozen, you won’t need to add ice, either, meaning it has more of a milkshake consistency.

Ingredients You’ll Need
- Frozen Strawberries: the key here is to be sure and use frozen strawberries. Once blended up they keep the smoothie nice and thick, giving it a milkshake texture.
- Banana: the banana adds sweetness and a little extra thickness to the smoothie. You can add it frozen or unfrozen—just make sure it is super ripe.
- Milk: you need something to thin the smoothie out and whole milk is a great choice. Feel free to make it dairy-free and try substituting almond milk, coconut milk, or even orange juice.
- Flax Seeds: flax seeds are an amazing way to add healthy fats and fiber to your smoothie, but they also help to keep it extra creamy. In order for your body to process them, they need to be ground up. So either grind until smooth in your blender or purchase ground flax seed.
- Protein Powder: there are so many different kinds of protein powders to choose from these days. You can go plant based, dairy-based, or collagen protein powder and they come in all different flavors. Experiment with the kinds and flavors that you like the most.
How to Make This Healthy Strawberry Banana Smoothie
- Blend. Blend the frozen strawberries, banana, milk, flax seeds, and protein powder on high speed until completely smooth, or about 60 seconds.

- Serve. Divide into 2 cups and enjoy!

Recipe Tips
- To make this smoothie even healthier, try adding 1-2 tablespoons of chia seeds, or another superfood like spirulina or acai. You can also add more protein and healthy fats by blending in Greek yogurt, nut butters, or even avocado.
- Don’t add ice. Ice melts eventually, making your smoothie more watered down than it needs to be. Make sure to freeze some of the fruit ahead of time so that about half of the fruit is frozen and half isn’t. Too much frozen fruit will make your smoothie a little too thick to enjoy right away, which is incredibly frustrating!
- Don’t be afraid to try different flavor combinations. This recipe is perfect for experimenting! Try using different fruits, substituting yogurt for some of the milk (or using a milk alternative), or adding in other spices or flavors.
