What is Dole Whip?
Dole Whip is a frozen pineapple soft serve that is served at Disney Parks around the world. It was first officially introduced in 1986 at Disneyland, where it can still be found today inside Adventurelandโs Enchanted Tiki Room.
At both Disneyland and Walt Disney World, you can get Dole Whip soft serve in a small cup, or as a Dole Whip Float, which is basically Dole Whip soaking in pineapple juice, served with a maraschino cherry.
This pineapple-flavored magic has a major cult following, and with one taste youโll see why! Itโs got the perfect creamy, frozen texture with the most refreshing tropical flavor - itโs hard to think of anything that hits the spot more on a hot summer day.
Ingredients You Will Need
- Vanilla Ice Cream - any brand of vanilla ice cream will work great. If you want to make this dairy-free, you can also substitute coconut milk.
- Pineapple Chunks - you can cut your own pineapple chunks from a full pineapple, or purchase pre-cut pineapple chunks.
- Pineapple Juice - you can purchase this in a can in the juice aisle, or also sometimes you can find it with the canned fruits.
- Lemon Juice or Lime Juice - this is optional, but just a small squeeze can add a nice flavor.
How to Make This Disney Dole Whip Recipe
- Blend the ingredients. In a heavy-duty blender or food processor, combine the vanilla ice cream, frozen pineapple chunks, and pineapple juice and blend until smooth.
- Freeze for 2-3 hours. Transfer the Dole Whip into a covered container and freeze for 2-3 hours to get the perfect dole whip consistency.
- Serve. Spoon into a piping bag and pipe into each glass. Garnish with a sliced wedge of pineapple and serve with a straw and spoon. Enjoy!
Recipe Tips and Variations
- Use a heavy-duty blender! If you don't have one, you can also try a food processor, or you may end up having to add a touch more pineapple juice to make sure you can get it as creamy as possible.
- Make sure to put the Dole Whip in the freezer for at least 30 minutes, but preferably 2-3 hours, after blending. This will give it the slushy texture that is so delicious.
- If you want to get that iconic Dole Whip swirl, you can use a star tip inside a piping bag. Don't worry, though, if you don't have any piping bags. You can also use a freezer bag and just cut off one of the tips.
- If you find your Dole Whip isn't quite sweet enough, add a touch of powdered sugar to the blender. You can also brighten the flavor by adding a touch of lemon or lime juice.
- Try swapping out the pineapple for other fruits like mango, strawberry, and peach.
Frequently Asked Questions
Sure, you can purchase pre-cut pineapple chunks but cutting a pineapple really couldnโt be simpler.ย We love to grab a few extra pineapples when they're on sale at the supermarket, cup them up, and freeze for later.ย Frozen pineapple is amazing thrown in a homemade Virgin Pina Colada Recipe or any fruit smoothie.
Just using a sharp serrated knife to cut off the top, then slice around all sides. Remove only the outer layer, carefully removing any large "eyes" that are still showing. From there, cut off the bottom and slice down the center along all sides before cutting into bite-sized pieces. Store in a single layer in a freezer bag overnight, or until frozen.
Not exactly. You could prep and freeze your pineapple ahead of time, but otherwise this is a frozen treat that should be made and enjoyed ASAP.
